When someone is facing a serious illness, management of his or health becomes a 24/7 job. Everything seems to revolve around caregiving, doctors’ appointments, and medication schedules. The experience of that illness can seem endless.

Hospice is right there with you. Interdisciplinary teams are serving terminally ill patients every hour of every day. New Year’s Day. 2:00am. During fires, floods, and ice storms. During the current pandemic.

If you’re putting off choosing hospice care for yourself or someone you love, don’t let the isolation think for you. Maybe you’re scared to let someone into your home who’s had a lot of contact with others, someone who’s been going from patient to patient providing care. Yes, hospice professionals are out in your community caring for their patients. You can be sure they’re using the precautions that are required to prevent spread the corona virus. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is being utilized to keep patients and their caregivers safe, as well as protect the hospice staff and their own families.

Maybe your reluctance to choose hospice care is more than fear of COVID-19. Maybe it’s fear of decline. Fear of death.

A little fear is healthy. It can make us cautious so we don’t jump off a cliff into the unknown. Fear can help us think ahead and to plan for circumstances that might arise. Planning for the changing needs of a seriously ill person is crucial to his care. It needs to happen. Don’t let fear keep you from making a good decision to use hospice care.

Hospice can plan with you. The team will teach you what you need to know. They’ll get necessary equipment out to your home. You’ll receive the support and encouragement you need to get through this experience. There will be a whole group of end of life professionals to guide you.

And just like your journey is 24/7, your hospice team will be there for you. Day or night, during office hours or through on-call services. Get to know them. Give them a chance to show you what they can do. Let them come alongside you and walk your hospice journey with you.

End of life teams are here when you’re ready to choose hospice. You don’t have to wait for a weekday. Make it work for your timeline. Call just to get information. Hospice professionals want the best for their patients. Just let us know when you’re ready to make the jump – we’ll be there to catch you.

No matter who you are, or where you are in your hospice journey, you are The Heart of Hospice.
