Self Care isn’t Just About Thriving – It’s About Surviving

Self Care. You need it. We all do. What is Self Care good for? The stress of world events, the pandemic, and natural disasters here in the U.S. have me thinking what Self Care looks like these days.

Self Care isn’t the big vacations or the mani/pedi appointments. It’s not weekend getaways or long soaks in a warm tub. It’s the small things that keep us going hour to hour.

Self Care is the deep breath before the phone call, and the even deeper breath after you hang up.

Self Care is the smile behind your mask and the extra thank you to the cashier at your grocery store.

Self Care is the positive post on FaceBook that shares a pic of your dog or your grandkids.

Self Care is giving of yourself, and receiving from someone else with grace and gratitude.

Self Care is the text you send to someone to say – You got this.

Self Care is the pep talk you give yourself when you brush your teeth in the morning. It’s the lullaby you sing to yourself at night. It’s naming your blessings out loud when you’re too tired to think.

Self Care isn’t just for thriving any more. It’s how we survive.

Self Care. It’s resting. Recovering. Renewing.

Let your Self recover. Body, mind, spirit.

No matter who you are, or where you are in your hospice journey, you are The Heart of Hospice.
