Happy Birthday to The Heart of Hospice!

The Heart of Hospice is 3 years old this month – wow!  In August of 2016, we launched the podcast, and the website and blog followed after that.

The HOH was small at first, with only a few listeners, but the potential was huge.  It was exciting!

Now, two years later, The HOH projects have grown leaps and bounds.  The podcast and blog were followed by info on Self Care, and resources on advance care planning.  The list goes on and on.

The past two years have been all about learning what our listeners & readers need.  We wanted to provide you with information about end of life care that provides comfort and enrichment of anyone’s hospice experience.

That’s not going to change.  Our mission will always be to help patients, families & caregivers, and hospice professionals navigate their way through the end of life experience.  Hospice care can be a challenge.

It can also be a very special experience.  Ask a hospice team member.  He’ll tell you that the work we do in end of life care is sacred.  There’s nothing like it.

But The Heart of Hospice is growing, and part of growing is change.  So we’re changing for the better!  Here’s what you can expect in the upcoming months:

  1. Connections – we want to connect with you, and provide you with opportunities to connect with folks who are also on a hospice journey.

  2. Interviews – talking with the most amazing people working in end of life care, as well as ones with hospice stories to share, is incredible. (Can you say Barbara Karnes?)  More of these great connections to come in year three!

  1. Serving – volunteers are a vital part of hospice care.  The hospice industry was powered by volunteers when it got started in the U.S.  We’re going to hook you up with ways you can serve in your own community.

  2. Care – as hospice professionals (and personal caregivers) we’ve learned the incredible power behind healthy self care.  And the consequences of neglecting it.  We want to help you to take the best care of yourself.  There’ll be ideas and inspiration to fuel your care of Mind, Body, and Spirit.

  3. Honor – military veterans hold a special place among hospice patients.  Honoring their service and understanding their unique needs is important.  We’ll be giving you support and resources to care for those who have served our country.

Most importantly, we want you to have the best hospice journey possible.  As the hosts of The Heart of Hospice projects, Jerry and I always welcome emails, questions, and suggestion for podcast content.  We’re available to speak to your organization or event on a variety of topics – Self Care, advance care planning, communication and listening, the history of Hospice/Hospice 101.  To connect with us, just send an email to host@theheartofhospice.com.  We’ll send you a personal reply.

So stay connected with us, and see what The Heart of Hospice can do for you.  We’re here to make your hospice journey meaningful and remind you that you’re not alone.

No matter who you are,

Or where you are in your hospice journey,

You are the Heart of Hospice.
